A year has passed...another year has come...and I never failed to write something about new year every time it comes. Resolutions....I thought I've already bored to think about it. Can we passed by a year without having resolutions? Some people seemed to already have enough of it, I heard on the radio this morning that one caller said that his resolution for this year is not to make any resolutions, hah! It was just a snippet on the air so I didn't get to know why he said that. But to me, whether we like or not, whether we've already bored with it or not, actually we make it every year, sometimes we just didn't realize it. There must be one time in our mind that we think of something that we want to get, we want to achieve or hope for in the future, whether it is achievable or not. There's no need to deny it. We always want to work on something until we get the result that we wanted. At the early stage, we always feel high-spirited to go and strut our stuff. Anyway, sometimes we will lose the drive as time passes by..let's say, mid-year, or quarter of a year...That's why DRIVE is important. We should tell somebody about the resolutions that we have made. Tell it to somebody whom we care for and also care for us. After that, we will feel that this person has indirectly become our 'observer', or the person whom we want to prove ourselves that we can 'walk the talk'.
One of the mistakes that we always do (..and what I did..) when we make our resolutions is to make it too general. Sometimes we like to generalize things too much that in the end, we don't know whether we have achieved it as we initially wanted it or not. "I want to be a better person this year"...we might have said that last year. So ask yourself, "Have I been a better person than before?" "How can I measure it in order to know that I have achieved it or not?" Well, can you? For example, you might better set it like this, "I promised myself not to throw tantrums in front of my boyfriend in public like before." So, how's the score? Have you achieved it? No? Only once? Well, it was better than 5 times last year. Then, you can move on. In other words, you have taken one step ahead to be a better person. So, the keywords here are;
ACHIEVABLE..BE SPECIFIC..MEASURABLE
Just now I have mentioned something about DRIVE. Like a marathon runner, we should have that air pistol to start the race and the cheering crowds all the way to keep us running to the finishing line. Lately, I am enjoying 'The Biggest Loser' show quite a lot. It's amazing to see big size people, committing themselves for several months to lose weight and by the time of the finale they become totally different people. They become persons of the same identity but with new spirit to live and new mindset. Of course, they have their trainers, eating and exercise discipline, but they cannot stay there tolerating each other and enduring all challenges if they don't have the drive. It could be about money. It could be about freeing themselves from being bullied. It could be about wanting to fit into a dream dress. It could be about being healthy and wanting to live longer for the sake of their families. Whatever it is, they have the reason to get going. And that is the thing that we must have to make our resolutions become reality.
And so....yes, I do have resolutions. I have two for this year. I have told them to someone. They can be achieved, they are specific and they can be measured. In fact, I have already started to work on one of them and I will start on the other one anytime soon. Last but not least, I hope by the end of this year, I would be able to tell the result in this blog and I wish everybody else all success. Give all efforts and ask The Almighty for the blessing and the strength to move on. Au revoir....
